Back in Sydney with Sam
Well after been in Melbourne I've traveled back to Sydney (opting for the plane this time!) to meet up with my friend Sam who has come over for 3 weeks with me and 3 weeks with another friend in Perth. So we've been doing some sight seeing including Toranga Zoo, Sydney Museum, Bondi / Coogee / Bronte beaches & plenty of eateries & pubs.
We stayed at first in a suburb of Sydney called Glebe which was really good, it was a sort of arty town with a flavour similar to Chorlton in Manchester.
Last week was the Sydney Mardi Gras so we set off in the afternoon to watch the parade, the info said get their for 3PM so we thought we'd get their earlier to beat the rush; we turned up at 2PM and virtually nobody was out. We therefore had a rather long 5 hour wait for the parade!
When the parade started the atmosphere was really good, various companies had given out maracas and clappers etc, so the noise was quite immense. The parade started with Dykes on Bikes which went on for a good half an hour (lots of bikes), after this loads of floats and parades went past for about 4 hours. After 4 hours a beer was most definitely deserved, however with 6000 people in the parade and another 300,000 watching the pubs were rather full! We opted to go to Chinatown and get some food and a drink.
This week we moved in to the city and are staying at the Wake Up hostel, this is a big 7 storey hostel with loads of facilities and is right next to central station. We have been exploring the city for the week and taking it pretty easy. Yesterday we were at the Cinema and opted to watch Tarantino's "Hostel", all I can say is it was horrific!
Anyway got to go to the beach now, so au revoir
